Presentation of Final Water & Environmental Technologies (WET) Report: Former ACM Smelter/Refinery OU2 Land Use Plan
November 16th, 2021 6:00 pm * Hybrid Meeting: Commission Chambers and ZOOM *
In October 2021, Water & Environmental Technologies (WET) finalized and released the Former ACM Smelter/ Refinery OU2 Land Use Plan. Cascade County was successfully awarded an EPA grant allowing them to contract with WET to help facilitate community meetings, develop a conceptual land-use plan for OU2 (the former smelter property), and explore long-term management options for the land within OU2. These tasks are a follow up to the previous report finalized in 2019 called the Art Higgins Memorial Park/Trail Access and Connectivity Plan.
In this OU2 report, 3 different land use options are put forward that were ranked on recreational benefits, construction costs, maintenance costs, and compatibility with the Superfund remedy. The Board of County Commissioners will be holding a public meeting on November 16, 2021 in the Commission Chamber with an option to participate by Zoom to make a final selection of one of the conceptual land use options for presentation to EPA and Atlantic Richfield for consideration. Elizabeth Erickson with WET will be available to present the plan options and answer questions. The Former ACM Smelter/Refinery OU2 Land Use Plan, including the 3 options, can be accessed on the county website at www.cascadecountymt.gov.
